Right now I’m working on a memoir about not only my own weird, paranormal experiences, but those of my family. For at least five generations, psychic abilities and spiritual gifts have been passed down through the female line on my mother’s side of the family. Of course, I will have to pick the best stories to tell or else this book I’m writing could go on forever.
Thinking about all this family history made me wonder how many other families also share gifts like these. I know on shows like “Psychic Kids” it seems like at least half of the kids with psychic abilities received them from a parent or grandparent (primarily the mother’s side). That got me to wondering how common it is for psychic gifts to run in families and whether they are normally handed down through the maternal side of the family? I can’t remember anyone much saying that they received their paranormal abilities from their father or their grandfather, it almost always seems to be from the mother or grandmother. Of course, this leads me to question, if a male does inherit this gift from his mother or grandmother, will he be able to pass the gift on to his children?

Personally I think I inherited my psychic abilities from both my parents and both my sons display psychic abilities as well. My father would tell us about some of the things he saw but my mother would always call him a liar. My grandmother and great aunt on my mothers side also claimed to see spirits but my mother always said they were crazy or demonized. For my mother herself, she never claimed to see anything, but did believe she could talk to animals. They would psychically communicate their needs to her and she seemed to have a remarkable gift for healing them. She taught me how to hear them as well.
Yes! My grandfather was psychic and a hands-on healer. He passed the psychic part down to my mom. I have both. Two of my children have both traits, two are just psychic (including the boy). My husband inherited his psychic ability from his grandfather..
